Jules E. Orenstein Memorial Scholarship

Jules E. Orenstein, who was known as Jed by his family, friends, and colleagues, was a “lawyer’s lawyer” who was best characterized by his love for the law. Jed graduated first in his class from New York Law School and was a distinguished legal scholar. Jed dedicated his entire career to public service, starting in the Nassau County District Attorney’s office as an Assistant District Attorney, where he later became Chief of the Appeals Bureau. Jed went on to become an Assistant Attorney General under Louis Lefkowitz. The highlight of Jed’s professional life was becoming a judge in Nassau County, first in the District Court, and then later in the County Court. Jed served on the bench over 20 years before passing away at age 66. Jed made many long-standing friendships in the Jewish Lawyers Association and was pleased to be a member, director, and officer of the organization. The Judge Jules E. Orenstein Award was established to honor Jed’s memory and worthy law students.
